Privacy Policy
Utopia Rising Last updated: August 2026
Utopia Rising runs themed, interactive events in Sydney. This page explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and how to get it changed or deleted.
We have written it in plain English rather than legal language. If anything here is unclear, email us and ask.
The short version
- We collect your name and email if you join our mailing list, and your booking details if you buy a ticket.
- We do not run advertising trackers, analytics, or any third party pixels on this website.
- We take photographs and video at events, and we use them in our marketing. You can ask us not to include you.
- We never sell your information to anyone.
What we collect, and when
When you join the “first dibs” list
We collect your name (optional) and email address. We use them for one thing: telling you about upcoming events before they open publicly.
Your details are stored on this website, and with our mailing list provider if you joined through them. Every email we send has an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list.
When you book a ticket
Ticket sales are handled by TryBooking, not by us. When you book, you give your details to TryBooking, who pass us an attendee list so we know who is coming. That typically includes your name, email address and any questions the booking form asked.
We never see or store your card details. Payment happens entirely inside TryBooking’s system. TryBooking has its own privacy policy at trybooking.com/au/privacy, which covers how they handle your payment information.
When you email us
If you write to us, we keep the email and your address so we can reply and follow up. Our email runs through Google (Gmail).
When you visit the website
Our web host keeps standard server logs, which include your IP address, browser type and the pages you visited. These are used for security and for fixing things that break.
The signup form also keeps a short lived record derived from your IP address, so that nobody can flood the form with junk signups. It is deleted automatically within an hour.
Photographs and video at events
Our events are photographed and filmed. We use those images and clips on this website, on social media, and in material promoting future events. It is a big part of how people understand what an event actually feels like.
We tell you this when you book and again on the night. If you would rather not be photographed, tell us on arrival and we will make sure you are not in the shots. If a photo of you is already published and you want it taken down, email us and we will remove it.
What we do not do
We think this is worth saying plainly, because most websites cannot say it.
- No analytics. We do not run Google Analytics or anything like it.
- No advertising pixels. No Meta pixel, no retargeting, no ad networks.
- No third party fonts. Our fonts are served from our own site, so visiting us does not tell Google or anyone else that you were here.
- No selling or renting your details. Ever, to anyone, for any amount.
- No cookies for ordinary visitors. Cookies are only set if you leave a comment or log in to the site, and our host may set one to help pages load faster.
If any of this changes, we will update this page and say so at the top.
Who else handles your information
We use a small number of service providers to run the business. Each one only gets what it needs to do its job:
| Who | What they handle |
|---|---|
| TryBooking | Ticket sales, payments, attendee lists |
| Our mailing list provider | The mailing list and the emails we send |
| SiteGround | Website hosting and server logs |
| Google (Gmail) | Our email inbox |
Some of these providers store information on servers outside Australia. By giving us your details you accept that they may be handled overseas under those providers’ own privacy and security terms.
How long we keep things
- Mailing list: until you unsubscribe, or until you ask us to delete you.
- Booking and attendee records: as long as we need them for our records and tax obligations, generally five to seven years.
- Emails: as long as the conversation is useful, then deleted.
- Server logs: a short rolling window kept by our host.
- Event photos and video: indefinitely, unless you ask us to remove an image of you.
Keeping it safe
The website runs over HTTPS, so anything you type into it is encrypted in transit. Access to the mailing list and booking accounts is limited to people who need it, and those accounts use strong passwords and two factor authentication.
No system is perfectly secure. If something goes wrong that puts your information at risk, we will tell you and take it seriously.
Your choices
You can ask us at any time to:
- See what personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Delete you from the mailing list, or from our records entirely.
- Remove a photograph or video of you from our website and social media.
Email utopiarising2024@gmail.com and we will action it. We aim to reply within a few days, and to complete the request within 30 days.
There is no charge for any of this, and asking will never affect your ability to come to an event.
If you are not happy with how we handled something
Tell us first, at utopiarising2024@gmail.com. It will come straight to Jonathan, and we would much rather fix it ourselves.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If it is a significant change and you are on our mailing list, we will tell you by email.

You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
Suggested text: Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.
